KS3
At KS3 in Maths, students study the 4 strands of the National Curriculum which are Using and Applying Maths; Number and Algebra; Shape, Space and Measure and Handling Data. This is taught in 6 lessons a fortnight with one homework set per week.
The Maths department is well resourced and uses a wide variety of teaching styles to ensure that students are engaged. All class rooms are equipped with a projector and an interactive whiteboard to help with the visualisation of areas of Maths and practical work is often used to enhance understanding of abstract concepts,
KS4
During KS4 the students continue to work on the four main areas of Maths, extending the work that they have done in KS3. The majority of students receive 8 lessons of maths a fortnight and are set one homework per week. All students are entered for modular GCSE Maths meaning that they are only examined on small areas of the syllabus at a time. Every pupil in Maths is pushed to reach their potential and module exam results are used to discuss exactly what is required of them in subsequent exams.
The Maths department is fortunate to be fully staffed by qualified Maths teachers and this provides students with excellent access to the relevant expertise needed to help them succeed.
